Pray. Connect. Reach.

A long-delayed post for Christvertising. Their mission is to pray for your brand and ask for God's endorsement of your brand. Though i live in San Francisco, there are millions of Americans that would clearly choose a brand based on its endorsement from God. I admit that they have, in fact, found a niché.

God bless your brand

what if...

you cut your hair and it didn't grow back. Our hair growing is part of our daily life. It happens so involuntarily, that we just expect it. So, what if it just stopped happening?

Malarkey

Fittingly, there is no known etymology for the word "malarkey".

Going Green.

Wearing green on most days is just a daily decision. But on St. Patty's Day it becomes a requirement. If you don't don a green wardrobe (or at least something green) you're not being festive.

However, if you are wearing green on the day after St. Patty's Day it's leaves the realm of wardrobe choice and becomes almost shameful - worse that leaving a x-mas tree up too long. Because St. Pat's is associated with heavy drinking wearing green the day after is a beacon to your walk-of-shame.

Nothing says "hard core" like a ... Duvet Cover?

Cruising the Bed, Bath, & Beyond website I noticed that The featured duvet covers were from Ed Hardy. Typically known for his tattoo-styled, rock-n-roll t-shirts, I guess it was only time until his brand hit dorm room life in the form of duvet covers.
this little number goes for $250-400.

toilet seat.

OK... so I every time i leave my house, i'm open to seeing just about anything: a homeless person taking residence on someone's thrown out mattress, a person so passed out that I think for a minute that they might be dead.

Today, however, i saw a woman walking down the street cradling a toilet seat and lid. ha!

surfboard

Soooo, last week a friend and I were sitting in Washington Square Park (not in NY) and we watched some kookie hippies hoist a surfboard up into a tree.

it's still there. maybe there is hope for humanity.

a modern proverb

"never leave home without your own chair"

I was heading back from the laundrymat, and noticed a chair EXACTLY like the ones we currently have at our kitchen table. Since it was out for the taking, I snagged. OK, it was IKEA so it's not that crazy that is the exact same chair, but still.

Anyways, I was carrying the chair back to the apartment (and not the first time I've been seen toting chairs) and as I was walking down my alley a local bum made the insightful comment "you know what they say, 'never leave home without your own chair". We shared a laugh.

corn in the mornin'

walking through chinatown there is always some kind of sensory amazement. be it a truck of slain pigs that makes your eyes pop out or many mysterious smells that seem to come from the netherworld.

today's surprise was a little girl eating corn on the cob at 8:30 AM. I have never once considered eating corn on the cob as the sun rises.

an american dilemma

motivation.

I was walking down the street the other day and I heard a common sentiment that just made me laugh. A guy and girl (friends, not a couple) had been chatting about some common interest and the guy goes, "I would join if you start a group". classic.

My first instinct was to laugh and think, "jeeeeez, people are lazy. always waiting for others to do the grunt work and then freeloading off of peoples' work". My second thought was , "He should take initiative". Ah hah... that's the problem.

Language. "Take initiative" is almost an oxymoron. Right from the linguistic get go, English has set us up to fail and freeload in the doing department. I suppose one could "have initiative" or "take the bull by the horns", but even still shouldn't there be a more overt nod to a verb like "do"?

Conclusion: there are a few options:
1) we become conscious of our weaknesses and start doing
2) we move to change the verb-noun usage of the phrase
or
3) wait for someone to do either of the above.

your mom

what if you found out your mom had a secret life? what could your mom feasibly do while flying under the family radar?

i'm sure many moms have many weird, strange, secret, and incredible habits, fetishes, or interests that they would NEVER share, let alone share with their children.

soooo, i was searching for random pics and came across some posted reviews on some stupid site, and one of the posters was named "michele" (which is how my mom spells her name). there was also a semi-generic b/w icon that almost could have been my mom. weird? and weird for many reasons... first why would my mom take on this weird persona of posting on sites, using weird computer post language, and having weird relations with people online. this one post (shown below) just made me lose it. choking? it's bad enough picturing my parents procreating to have made me... but asphyxiation is just a place i can't go.

it creeped me out, and it wasn't my mom (i hope). but, it was weird to think about. what's your mom doing right now? choking?

tubular turkey

So, I suppose this is a post I could save for Thanksgiving, but maybe someone out there has an answer.

Why is sliced turkey round? And, how is every piece a uniform shape?

I understand the cylindrical form of bologna, since it really doesn't come from a part of an animal. But, the 4-5" roundness of turkey slices make me think there should be some tall tube-like turkeys gobbling around. Turkeys are kind of plump and stuff, but they are more spherical. do they only use the smaller diameter through the turkey to maximize the number of uniform slices?

a side of skepticism, please

The caption for this picture read,"A man who said his name was Juan cleans up the groceries that toppled from the shelves at Save Mart in Northwest Reno after Friday night's strong earthquake April 25, 2008."

wtf! would you NOT believe someone's name? the poor guy is picking up downed food after an earthquake.
